KD Hafley
BIOGRAPHY:
K.D. Hafley is a professional artist in DFW, A native of Austin, Texas, she grew up creating art and received her formal education in art at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1990. After graduation, she pursued a career in the Galleries Business in Chicago and San Diego. Then moving to the Dallas area in 2003 she indulge her other passion. The care of animals and animal rescue. However, in 2006, she decided to return to creating her art. Because of her love for animals, most of her paintings feature them.
Currently, her work is being shown at the Gallery at Midtown in north Dallas and SkyPony Gallery in Plano, Texas. In 2013 a painting of hers was purchased by the city of McKinney and is on permanent display at their performance art building. In addition to pieces she paints for gallery sales and shows, she accepts commissions for custom paintings.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I paint almost exclusively with acrylic paints since I have found that I am allergic to oils. Though I am primarily known for my wildlife and pet portraits, I also paint people portraits, and narrative paintings, which some have called expressionism and others surrealistic. I also create multi-media pieces, and printmaking works. My primary artistic outlet is painting and my primary focus is on people and animals - especially the latter. I have loved animals all of my life, and being able to show their essence as the wonderful, beautiful creatures that they are is one of my driving passions. Whether an animal is wild and exotic or just an everyday pet or domestic animal, he or she is a unique creature with a unique essence. My goal as an artist is to capture that essence and share it with those who view my work.
